Black Oxide for Steel

Blackening Finishes for Steel Parts

Mid-Temperature Black Oxide

Utilizing a unique two-stage oxidation (Patented), Tru Temp® Mid-Temperature Black Oxide for steel forms a black magnetite finish when applied on any carbon steel parts. The Tru Temp process operates effectively at 200° to 210° F, much lower than hot black oxide at 285-290° F. The result is a protective black finish - 0.000020" (1 micron) thick, with an attractive satin black appearance equal to that of hot black oxide.

Room-Temperature Black Oxide

A non-dimensional Presto Black oxide for steel is a low cost way to achieve good corrosion protection and enhance sales appeal. Presto Black operates at 65° to 85°, also known as cold blackening, as is a preferred process due to safer operation. With a uniform 0.000030 inch (1 micron) thickness, the porous crystalline structure of the black finish makes it an excellent absorbent base for a rust preventive top coat. Once sealed, the Presto Black oxide for steel resists up to 1,200 hours humidity test without chipping or peeling.
